TO: ALL WONDER MEMBERS
MEMO: WGN WEEKLY MEMO: 2026/02/03
DATE: Wednesday, February 4, 2026
Yesterday, we had a young (elementary-aged) child complain about name-calling during lunch. The child expressed feeling sad about the interaction with someone they’d consider a friend. This is absolutely unacceptable. Friends don’t call each other names. Friends are not unkind to one another. Friends don’t embarrass each other. Please speak to your children about upholding a standard of kindness and respect. Even with our older children, we understand most develop the maturity to engage in friendly banter and jest, but we’ve found feelings can still get hurt in the name of fun. It’s not fun to be the butt of a joke; it’s not fun to be laughed at when we’re not provoking a laugh; and it’s not always easy to tell your friends that you were hurt by something they did in the group or one-on-one. So, what do you do if this does happen? It’s so important that when someone does say something unkind or shows poor character that offends you, you kindly communicate it to them directly, allow them to apologize, and seek healthy restoration. If you confront them and they do not listen, ask a grownup for help. If someone is doing something dangerous, tell a grownup immediately. Let’s all practice and model being good friends. And remember: a friend and a good friend should mean the same thing. “A friend loves at all times” (Proverbs 17a)
Please read this memo in its entirety, as it contains important information about the season, and remember to check the Action Items at the bottom of each memo!
