TO: ALL WONDER MEMBERS
MEMO: WGN WEEKLY MEMO: 2025/10/28
DATE: Wednesday, October 29, 2025
Yee-haw! Thank you to all who dressed up for our first Homeschool Spirit Day! Y’all looked mighty fine in your western getups (we’re talkin’ to the adults, too)! And how wonderful to see so many of you participating in the dances during assembly! We are so thankful to Soquel Ross for sharing some dances with us. We hope you had as much fun as we did! Also, anybody who loves western wear and cowboy boots needs to know about the Roper Warehouse sale coming up soon!
We’re also really proud of those who have exemplified exceptional character, completed memorization of scriptures (even some full chapters!), completed their practice times, and submitted pictures and facts (the pile is getting quite high). Keep up the good work while earning points for your team!
Please read this memo in its entirety, as it contains important information about the season, and remember to check the Action Items at the bottom of each memo!
HIGHLIGHTS
- Scripture of the Month: Psalms 71:17-18 – God, You have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wonders. Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come. – Psalms 71:17-18
- Fall Reviews for (Band, Orchestra, Recorder Only):
- We are nearly halfway through the fall session, and it’s been a pleasure to see our Wonder students progressing in their instruments and art skills over the past several weeks. It’s especially important that we stay ahead of each student’s individual progress to make sure we help prepare them for success and maintain accountability. Thus, we’d like to have a 15-minute Fall Review with you before Wonder classes resume. We’ll hold these conference meetings via online meeting on Monday 11/24 and Tuesday 11/25 during break. Your child DOES NOT need to be present for this meeting. We’ll cover specific topics such as overall progress, practice records, private lesson recommendations (if necessary), and other pertinent information related to your family.
- While we wait to meet, please be sure your child has reviewed the most recent Class Notes and, if applicable, practices the required amount during weekly classes and break. Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to speaking with you!
- Directory (families and staff): The 25-26 Directory is up! Please review your information and let us know if there are any errors or updates you’d like to make. Please remember to honor everyone’s privacy and do not add anyone’s information to your personal or business email list or group chats without PRIOR APPROVAL and MUST BE INITIATED by the other party. The Directory is a tab within the 25-26 Wonder Generations spreadsheet (link below) with the calendar and Helping Hands schedule.
- Homeschool Spirit Day: November (Hat Day) – Baseball caps, clown hats, cowboy hats, or styled fedoras are all perfect choices! Always keep in mind The Wonder Way and refrain from inappropriate attire, such as anything that may resemble cross-dressing. Let’s have fun!

Ballot Considerations
2025 Election
Election day is next week! As homeschooling has exploded over the last several years, and though we didn’t notice an increased effort by legislators to change the homeschool laws, we want to keep this message before us. Wonder’s general stance is that if bills are put forth that increase regulations or even the potential for regulations (especially when money is involved), we oppose them. Homeschooling was meant to be free from the public umbrella (both in regulations and funding), and we want to see it remain so for our children and grandchildren.
Please know and remember it wasn’t too long ago that homeschooling was illegal in Colorado. In fact, homeschooling didn’t become legal in all 50 states until 1992. Veteran homeschoolers fought tirelessly and diligently for what we have now, and we don’t want to lose our freedoms to educate our children as we see fit. Colorado homeschool laws aren’t as strict as some states and more strict than others. Again, unless a bill is going to deregulate our homeschool laws, without strings attached, we will not support it. For those who don’t know, Sweden lost their right to home education in 2011. That’s right! Parents used to be able to homeschool their children and can no longer legally do so. How did this happen? It boils down to funds and state regulation.
We also know that the institution is one we don’t share important values with. For example, any program that takes state funding must also adhere to policies that support transgender-affirming practices. This is whether they are a faith-based organization or not. This is not something we want to support and is the reason many recent homeschool families left public school. This isn’t an institution we want to support or affiliate with in any way, and we encourage each family to consider this when voting to protect homeschool, parental, and family rights.
It is also important that legislators speak with stakeholders when developing laws. With the most recent bill on the ballot, this was not done, and both HSLDA and CHEC adamantly oppose it (along with many other homeschool organizations and umbrella schools).
If you have not already done so, you can read (and join the email list) for legislative updates from CHEC’s Homeschool Freedom Team at chec.org/colorado-homeschool-freedom. A post from last year (https://chec.org/chec-blog/fallout-from-funding/) is very informative and may help us all understand why state funds present a true threat to homeschool laws in our nation.
