TO: ALL WONDER MEMBERS
MEMO: WGN WEEKLY MEMO: 2025/09/30
DATE: Wednesday, October 1, 2025
What a wonderful first day of Wonder!
Firstly, we want to thank everyone for your prayers! With all that is going on in the world, we’re full of gratitude for the opportunity to facilitate Wonder with a community of like-minded families. We hope you all enjoyed your classes, met some new friends (of all ages), and learned something new! Thank you to all the parents who stepped in and helped where there was a need. Thanks to all the students and parents who made yesterday’s assembly was a success! We are beginning a new journey together and look forward to working side-by-side to create wonderful music, art, and experiences to share with others. In the short time of meeting your families, we already see an environment of joy establishing. It’s going to be wonderful to see your smiling faces every week!
Please note: Wonder’s admin team will be out on Thursday of this week. The Scott family will be sure to check emails during the two-week break to answer any questions we receive, so don’t hesitate to reach out. Also, for new families who may not know, Wonder’s blackout dates for breaks include days we cannot use CCPC facilities and the Biblical festival calendar. In past years, we’ve had one or no days off for the Feast of Tabernacles, but this year the first and last day of Tabernacles are both on a Tuesday, so we have a rare two weeks off. We hope you all enjoy the time off with your families, and remember to practice during break! Blessings!
Please read this memo in its entirety, as it contains important information about the season, and remember to check the Action Items at the bottom of each memo!
HIGHLIGHTS
- Scripture of the Month: Psalms 71:17-18 – God, You have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wonders. Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come. – Psalms 71:17-18
- NO CLASS NEXT 2 WEEKS: No classes or meetings on Tuesday, October 7 & 14. Classes resume on October 21.
- Homeschool Spirit Days: (October) Howdy Day – Come all cowboys and cowgirls with your favorite western or farming attire. Throw on your stylish Wild West hat, boots, and strapping belt, or jump into your trusty overalls and plaid button-up! Be sure to wear your Wonder Tee! Always keep in mind The Wonder Way and refrain from inappropriate attire, such as anything that may resemble cross-dressing. Let’s have fun!
- Wonder Honor Society: WHS is a free homeschool honor society intended to prepare the next generation of leaders. The Wonder Honor Society was established exclusively for home-educated students in grades 6–12 (younger siblings may be welcome if there’s enough interest). We provide opportunities for development in noble character and leadership, selfless service and citizenship, exceptional skills and scholarship, thoughtful business and entrepreneurship, and networking for home-educated students. We are determined to honor each student’s accomplishments, whether they are academic, creative, or socially impactful, and help families support their children’s goals as they are developed. Meetings are on Tuesday, from 6pm-8pm at CCPC. The family orientation is next week from 6pm-8pm (online link below).
- Helping Hands: We have a few adjustments to make from this week and still have a few needs we are looking to fill. We’ll update the schedule as adjustments are made (no notice will be sent out). Please remember to arrive 10 minutes before the listed class time (and depart 5 minutes after) and check-in at the Welcome Table before and after your placement for any notes for the day.
- Schedule Changes: This Thursday is the last day to submit schedule changes. Please reply to this memo with any schedule change requests.
- Also, there are always a few schedule tweaks we need to make for some students. These adjustments will be made before next class and will be reflected on their updated badge.
- Tuition: There are a few families who have not yet submitted their annual tuition for the season. Please bring your payment during next week’s class to complete your registration.
- Wagon (REMINDER): The wagon parking lot was nice and full! Please make sure ALL items must fit in the wagon except cellos and upright basses. All other instruments MUST FIT IN the wagon, along with stands, backpacks, and lunch bags. Larger families may need two wagons.
- What kind of wagon? It is best to use a wagon with wheels. They can be purchased online according to your budget and size needs, and can often be found used (facebook, nextdoor).
- Don’t own a wagon? A basket or bin could work, though the wheels of a wagon make it easier to move. ALL items must fit in the solution.
- Students FIRST CLASS: Clarification. Make sure your child arrives 15 minutes before their FIRST class so they can unpack, go to the restroom, and arrive to class on-time (music students should have their instruments out and ready to start class). During the day, students should arrive by class start time. Passing Periods between classes are only 5 minutes long, so students are not required to arrive to class earlier, but should still arrive on-time.
- Hallways: Students and Parents should not be in the halls once classes begin. Parents can stay in the FOYER or GARAGE (space between the middle and high school room). The foosball table may not be used once classes are in session, as the noise is disruptive for students in class.
- Dress Code: Wonder Tees are to be worn every week (not outside of Wonder). Please let us know if you have a shirt that is too small/big (when arms are lifted, belly should not be showing). Also, keep shorts at knee length or longer, and they should not be too tight. Leggings should be worn WITH shorts, a skirt, or with a dress, but not alone (this does not apply to babies and toddlers, but does apply to adults as well), as detailed in the Wonder Way.
- Practice Records: Please be sure to be aware of your student practice times and habits and sign their Practice Records every week. We know everyone is not familiar with the different disciplines, but we do ask that you make an effort to support your child and keep them accountable. If your child did not receive a practice record, please make sure their keep track of their practic minutes every day and bring it to class with your signature.
- Focused Practice: For those with students who are in a performance ensemble, please remember the general Wonder philosophy of guiding students through new skills and material. We focus on skill-based music, arts, and enrichment. This means, we find repetition and mastery important. We do not tend to rush through material, but would rather take a systematic and intentional approach to ensure students are developing a strong foundation to build upon. This tends to be a slower process, especially because we only meet once a week. Please familiarize yourself and your child with the Focused Practice Guide.
- Private Lessons: Although not required for all students, we highly encourage our musicians to take private lessons in their respective instruments. It is here, under the guidance and responsibility of a private music teacher, where musicians are more likely to acquire excellent technique, which leads to mastery of skills and excellent musicianship. You will be notified if your child is struggling and will need lessons to keep up with the class pace.
- Stay Healthy: Now that we’re getting together again, it’s a good time to take any immune-boosting remedies and continue drinking plenty of water.
- Allergies: We have a few students who have severe allergies. We may need to adjust some of the food allergy restrictions and will update everyone if so.
- Checking Out: Please be sure to checkout at the Welcome Table before leaving (return badges and sign-out with the Helping Hands at the Welcome Table).
