MEMORY VERSES (SEE ALL)

  • Scripture of the Month: John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27
  • Character Scripture:
    • Psalms 34:14 – Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it. – Psalms 34:14
    • Matthew 5:9 – Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. – Matthew 5:9
    • Jeremiah 29:7 – Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace. – Jeremiah 29:7
    • Psalms 122:6 – Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you will prosper. – Psalms 122:6
    • Proverbs 14:30 – The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones. – Proverbs 14:30

MUSIC FOUNDATIONS

  • 2A & 3A:
    • If you took home a Note Naming Packet, please finish it at home and bring it back next week.
  • 2B:
    • If you took home your minor key worksheet, please work on it at home.
    • Reminder:
      • To find the relative minor
      • -start on “La” or the 6th scale degree of the major scale
      • -OR go down a minor third or three half steps from “Do” of the major scale
      • Example – For F Major, the sixth scale degree (or La) is D so the relative minor of F major is D minor. OR you can go down three half steps or a minor third and you get the same answer.
      • *Note: when you write “D minor” in this context, you can write just a lowercase “d” or you can write “Dm” or “dm”
      • To go from minor to major (the second page), you will need to go UP a minor third, or three half steps. That will give you the relative major. From there you can determine the key signature (how many sharps or flats).
      • Example – for G minor, go up a minor third (or three half steps) to B-flat to find the relative major. B-flat Major has two flats, so that is also the key signature for G minor.

PIANO 1

  • Practice Time: 10/5d
  • Review all parts of Sailor Jack (pages 30-33)
  • Practice all parts of Lost My Partner (pages 52-55)
  • Practice Sailing (page 59) and Skating (page 60)
  • Create a Composition using page 64.

PIANO 2

  • Work on all parts of If I Won Ten Million Dollars.
  • If you recently had a cast taken off (you-know-who, wink-wink): We’re so glad you have full use of your right hand! Please practice pages 48 and 49 to help get your right hand back in shape. 🙂

BUCKETLINE

  • Practice Time: 20m/5d
  • PLAY WITH A METRONOME ON BUCKET HEAD!!! 72BPM. Work on rhythms on Bucket stomp
  • Wonder Drumline Book
    • Practice all exercises (excluding “Rolls & Rhythms”) to the goal of memorization at moderate tempos (80-120bpm) and stick heights (mezzo-forte and forte (plus piano-forte for accent exercises). Keep utilizing the mark time to guide your ability to keep good tempo. Write in the foot work (lefts and rights) above the staff for “Count Up Legatos” and practice these individual measures to see how the feet align with the hands; keep in mind the subdivided ‘upbeat’ motion in the mark time to help with the measures that have a left hand starting on an upbeat.

DRUMLINE

  • Practice Time: 20m/5d
  • Practice your rhythms for your specific parts in the Drumline Book; we will introduce a cadence or two next week, too.

      • The name was chosen for dramatic, cinematic impact — not for theological meaning, and not as a literal statement about “hell.” It’s branding for epic, high-intensity music.

    • Gooseberry, Gooseberry
    • Pineapple, Pineapple
    • Huckleberry, Huckleberry
    • Jello (shh) lo
  •  Baritone
    • Warm up by buzzing in the mouthpiece. After placing the mouthpiece back in the baritone, focus on playing with a beautiful tone. Do lips slurs to see how many different notes you can play with 12. Continue practice session as indicated on handout.
  •  Clarinet
    • Use last weeks playing tips to continue working forward in your books. (below)
    • Biggest thing to watch for is puffy cheeks. Without those, you have a smooth and solid tone.
    • Here are some tips to help you with your tone & tuning:
    • ⭐️ The edges of the tongue should touch the side of the roof of the mouth by the teeth, this is where it goes when hissing like a cat. 🙀
    • ⭐️ Make sure the mouthpiece is far enough in the mouth to keep the pitch from going flat.
    • ⭐️ Don’t let the cheeks puff out.
    • ⭐️ Support your notes with a good stead airstream.
    • Can’t wait to hear you play next week!
  •  Flute
    • Technique: Bb scales #1 and 2, master that articulation and try to pick up the temp on #2
    • Lesson book: #63 & #64 work on at home
    • Performance book: C&C measures 12-17, second half goal is solid 108
  •  Horn
    • Continue to work on Chant & Celebration. Use the syllable Doo for slurs if it’s difficult to slur to the next note, make sure to use Too when the note is not slurred.
    • Remember to keep your head up while playing. Raising your stand will help. Check yourself in the mirror, too.
    • In the Essential Elements Book, work through exercises to first, learn the skills, notes and music vocabulary and then to suggest a tune or 2 to play together with the trombones.
  •  Percussion
    • Practice snare + cymbal part for “Rock Point Five” and “Ode To Joy”. Find material in the mallet section that we have not looked at in class and practice writing in your pitches. Also work on “Hugga-Hugga Burr” with buzz roll focus.
  • Saxophone
    • Practice in method book and Chant and Celebration as mentioned in prelude band notes. Be careful with accidentals in Chant and Celebration
    • This week I want you to warm up well, fingers and embouchure to the fullest.
    • 🎷 The 1st time you practice a piece, play it as softly as possible.
    • 🎷 The 2nd time you practice that piece, play all dynamic levels 1 level softer.
    • 🎷 Continue that throughout the week. Push yourself to play softer and softer and softer. p…pp…ppp…pppp…ppppppppppp 😁
  • Trombone
    • Practice in method book and Chant and Celebration as mentioned in prelude band notes. Be careful with accidentals in Chant and Celebration
