- Essential Elements Book 1 aka Yellow Book
- Rhythms (clapping https://photos.app.goo.gl/nrxnCqvWbuBghF7x5)
- Huckleberry Jello
- Gooseberry, Gooseberry
- Pineapple, Pineapple
- Huckleberry, Huckleberry
- Jello (shh) lo
- Baritone
- Warm up by buzzing in the mouthpiece. After placing the mouthpiece back in the baritone, focus on playing with a beautiful tone. Do lips slurs to see how many different notes you can play with 12. Continue practice session as indicated on handout.
- Clarinet
- You’re doing really well with notes and rhythms!
- Here are some tips to help you with your tone & tuning:
- ⭐️ The edges of the tongue should touch the side of the roof of the mouth by the teeth, this is where it goes when hissing like a cat. 🙀
- ⭐️ Make sure the mouthpiece is far enough in the mouth to keep the pitch from going flat.
- ⭐️ Don’t let the cheeks puff out.
- ⭐️ Support your notes with a good stead airstream.
- Can’t wait to hear you play next week!
- Flute
-
- Posture: Posture: chins up, wrists neutral (keep up the good work!)
- Technique: faster air, forward chin = higher notes; do the same warm up again this week: Low F, long and slow until it sounds lovely, then high F long and slow until it sounds lovely. Back to low F for a long note (4 beats minimum), high F for a long note (4 beats minimum). Do the same thing on G. Do the same thing on A. #42 and #45: focus on taking deep breaths and playing entire phrases, only breathing where marked. The faster you go, the easier that will be!
-
- Horn
- ⭐️ Warm up with long tones on the notes that we numbered on your fingering chart. 2-3 minutes
- ⭐️ Remember to take the mouthpiece from your mouth and relax for 4 counts.
- ⭐️ As you go up the scale and the notes feel like they need to be forced out, remember to relax. Don’t worry that you didn’t hit the note, it will come.
- ⭐️ Practice the songs that Ms. Carol had you circle in your book. For best results, read the yellow boxes on those pages and read all of the music: notes, dynamics, rests, repeats, etc.
- ⭐️🎁⭐️ Here’s a new piece of info: When finished playing, you will recover faster if you flap your lips like a horse. 🐴 It’s true! Your muscles will relax much faster.
- Percussion
- Practice Starfire March and review Essential Elements Book I Songs/Exercises 34, 35, 42, 43, 54, 57. 58. Practice individual instrument assignments for “Procession from the Water Music Suite”. Add “Ode To Joy”, “Hard Rock Blues”, “Chant & Celebration”, “Fit To Be Tied,” and the mallet part for “Aura Lee.” Also work on “Hugga-Huggar Burr” with buzz roll focus.
- Saxophone
- You are playing wonderfully well! As you are practicing please make sure to notice and play the following:
- ⭐️ dynamics! Saxophones can overpower almost all other sections, but we’ll sound so much better if we blend in.
- ⭐️ control your sound by firming up your smile muscles at the corner of your mouth-this will help you not only control tone, but also volume
- Happy Praciting 🎷
- Trombone
- Bring pencil to class!
- Continue warmup by buzzing in the mouthpiece. After placing the mouthpiece back in the trombone, focus on playing with a beautiful tone. Do lips slurs to see how many different notes you can play in first position.
- Practice in method book as mentioned in prelude band notes. Do worksheets and flash cards daily for note names and positions (if assigned). Practice 45 and 48 as quickly as you can while keeping good musicality.
- For 57, especially work measures 9-12
- Practice Starfire March (will play without helpers next week- especially practice measures 59-60) and Rock Point paying attention to breath marks
- Trumpet
- Flat lips – stretch out smile – Tight on both sides of straw
- Hold trumpet up – good contact with upper lip

- Get faster at fingering notes – especially with intervals
- Good long breath from lower belly – sit up – good posture
- Hold notes full value – smooth transition between notes
- Work on rhythms – in book – 42, 43, and 45
- You are getting much better each week . Keep up the good concentration
