HSD RECAP 2023.10.31

TO: THE WONDER TEAM GUIDES
MEMO: HSD RECAP 2023.10.31
DATE: Wednesday, November 1, 2023

Thank you for participating in this week’s spirit day and for submitting team points. The students are getting  more excited to contribute to Wonder in positive ways. We’ve had several students share what they did for someone else which shows they are thinking about their actions (very cute since they don’t get points for noticing their own deeds). Students are also sharing about what they’ve witnessed (for example: “red opened the door for someone,” or “yellow helped a student find their bag, etc…). Even practice times are better for some students (we hope this is translating to learning their skills).

Please read this memo in its entirety, as it contains important information about the season.

RECAP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Scripture of the Month: Psalms 71:17-18 – God, You have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wonders. Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come. – Psalms 71:17-18
  • Read the Memos (Reminder): Please be sure to read the memos (family and staff) and complete the Action Items below, if applicable. We do not send out many staff memos during year and we want to respect everyone’s time but we do need to make sure communication is effective and efficient so we’re all on the same page.
  • Fundraiser Calendar: The Wonder Honor Society is organizing a fundraiser for Wonder and other organizations (homeschool programs, missions, youth groups, non-profit organizations, and other services we support). This calendar was designed by a Colorado homeschool mama and alumni! You can read about the calendar at letswonder.com. Please consider purchasing a calendar for your family and sharing it with others. As a privately funded, faith-based non-profit organization, it can be challenging to raise the funds we need to keep the program affordable and sustainable. In addition to the annual Wonder Games, we seek grants, community support, and other opportunities we find. If you know of an organization you’d like us to support, please let us know so they can be added to the fundraiser. Thank you for your continued support!
  • Fall Reviews for (Band, Orchestra, Recorder Only – Music Foundations as needed):
    • During Fall Break we schedule Fall Conference Reviews for instrument students. The meetings are with the Director and families, so you are not required to attend. During this meeting, we discuss the students progress on their instrument and want to communicate both the strength and weakness of each student. It’s especially important we stay ahead of each student’s individual progress to make sure we help prepare them for success and maintain accountability. We’ll cover specific topics such as overall progress, practice records, private lesson recommendations (if necessary), and other pertinent information related to your family.
    • Please submit your clear and detailed (bullet points, not sentences, please) Students Evaluations on the [WONDER PREP FOLDER LINK].
  • Lesson Plans (Reminder for all Guides and Instrument Coaches): Please be sure class lesson plans for the upcoming week are clear, updated, substitute-ready, and submitted by the prior Tuesday (many of you have them complete by the prior Monday along with your Class Notes, which works well too). All materials, resources, references, songs, links, etc., shared with students must be included in lesson plan and all files added to the respective class folder. Please be sure to include any approved materials and supplies needed for the class. Thank you! Each folder is linked on the first tab of the Roster Spreadsheet [WONDER PREP FOLDER LINK]
  • Arrival: Please arrive in enough time to set up your room and be ready to greet your students upon their arrival. Please do not arrive at class start-time.
  • Student Points: Within the Black Class Folders you will find an attendance sheet, Team Points sheet, a schedule, some classroom policy details, and other applicable items. Please be intentional about noticing good character and awarding points to student teams.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES

  • 2023-2024 Wonder HSD Calendar: Please view the updated calendar for general calendar dates and start and end times. We are still adding dates to the calendar as they are approved by the varying facilities.

  • Homeschool Spirit Day: November 28 (Hat Day)

ACTION LIST (REPLY TO THIS MEMO)

  1. Share the Fundraiser Calendar: This November, please consider purchasing a calendar for your family and sharing it with others (letswonder.com, fb, ig). If you know of an organization you’d like added to support, please reply with their name, website url, email and/or phone number, and a contact person (if you have a personal contact). It can be another private homeschool program, a mission’s trip, youth group, local non-profits serving youth, adults, families, preborn babies, the poor, fatherless, or widows, anti-trafficking efforts, and more.  We appreciate your support!
  2. Student Evaluations (Band, Orchestra, Recorder Only, Music Foundations as needed) Due Wednesday 15th: Please submit your Student Evaluations on the [WONDER PREP FOLDER LINK] by Wednesday 15th so we have time to connect with you if we have questions before the meeting with families.

Please let us know if you have any questions and we’ll do our best to answer them.

Let’s wonder!

Corey and Helen Scott
