We did it!

What a WONDER-full first day! Thank you for giving all our Wonder students a good time. We’re thankful our children get to experience the joys that come from music and the arts alongside you and other homeschoolers. Many students have already declared Wonder Homeschool Day one of their favorite days of the week and can’t wait for next class! Already, you’ve inspired them to learn more about art and music and to share all they’re learning! We appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing the fruit develop over the course of the year. As we’ll share with the families, we heard music playing, voices singing, and a lot of chatter with new friends. We also saw bright smiles, artistic creations in the making, and plenty of preparations in motion for what’s ahead this season. We also experienced some challenges, which are expected on the first day of a program our size. Thank you for your initial feedback. We’ll be working to smooth out any bumps and make the necessary adjustments until we get into the right rhythm for this year. Thank you all for making it a great day of exploring, sharing, and creating!

We’ll be out of town, but will be available next week if you need anything and will be responding to emails early next week.

  • Scripture of the Month: Psalms 71:17-18 – God, You have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wonders.   • NO CLASS NEXT WEEK: No class on Tuesday, October 3rd. Classes resume on October 10th.
  • Read the Memos: Please be sure to read the memos (family and staff) and complete the Action Items below, if applicable. We do not send out many staff memos during year and we want to respect everyone’s time but we do need to make sure communication is effective and efficient so we’re all on the same page.
  • Lesson Plans: Please be sure class lesson plans for the upcoming week are clear, updated, substitute-ready, and submitted by the prior Tuesday (many of you have them complete by the prior Monday along with your Class Notes, which works well too). All materials, resources, references, songs, links, etc., shared with students must be included in lesson plan and all files added to the respective class folder. Please be sure to include any approved materials and supplies needed for the class. Please choose between the Google Docs or Sheets to create detailed lesson plans each week, rather than using both. When using the Google Doc, keeping the current week’s lesson plan on the top makes it easier to review and reference for Class Notes. Thank you!   • Arrival: Please arrive in enough time to set up your room and be ready to greet and direct your students upon their arrival.
  • Daily Rundown: Upon your arrival, please check in and pickup your Daily Rundown with announcements, a list of notes for the day, expected attendance notes, etc. Please checkout at the end of your day and return this packet to your file folder.
  • Time Management: You will need to keep track of your class time and ensure you wrap up activities 5 minutes prior to class end time.
  • Printing: We had some issues with the printer, so we apologize if any of your printed materials were delayed. We’ll do our best to print material before Tuesday morning, but requests must be submitted the prior week when lesson plans are submitted. You can note any printing requests in your lesson plan in the Notes to Wonder section. .
  • Class Notes: In our experience and from family feedback, bullet-pointed notes are the preferred format. Please keep this in mind when writing your Class Notes.
  • Student Points: Within the Black Class Folders you will find an attendance sheet, Team Points sheet, a schedule, some classroom policy details, and other applicable items. Please be intentional about noticing good character and awarding points to student teams.
  • Staff Photos (Rescheduled): We are shooting for the third week of classes to begin taking individual staff and student photos.
  • Final Registration: For those of you who have a child in the program, please be prepare to resolve any outstanding balances by next week. If you have any questions, please reply to this memo as soon as possible.


  • 2023-2024 Wonder HSD Calendar: Please view the updated calendar for general calendar dates and start and end times. We are still adding dates to the calendar as they are approved by the varying facilities.
  • No Regular Class (October 3rd):  No class on Tuesday, October 3rd
  • Student & Staff Photos (Rescheduled): Starting the 3rd week of classes
  • Homeschool Spirit Day: October 31 (Howdy Day)
  • Fall Break: November 19 – November 25
  • Fall Conference Review: November 20 or 21 (Director/Family Meetings)
  • Homeschool Spirit Day: November 28 (Hat Day)


  1. First Day Feedback: Feedback from families was positive for the first day of Wonder. We have already compiled a long list of strengths and weaknesses to consider for next year. If you have any feedback to add to the list, please reply to this memo with details.
  2. Helping Hands Feedback: We have a few HH that need an assignment. Please reply with GOOD FIT, TOO FEW NEED #, or TOO MANY NEED # – Please list the number you need if an adjustment needs to be made. Please keep in mind, we are limited with HH during some blocks, but will do our best to fill each position.
  3. Assembly: If you’d like to volunteer by sharing music, arts, dance, etc. (your discipline) with the students during assembly, please let us know and we’ll add you to the schedule for the year. Prepare for 3-5 minutes of your performance and up to 5 minutes of q&a.
  4. Post: Please post your first message on the Wonder HSD Team space by this week. Using Google Spaces is similar to using other popular chat apps but if you would like a tour, please reply to this memo to coordinate a time. (See last memo for reference)
  5. Band & Orchestra Teams: Please view the roadmaps in the the Drive Folder to help you prepare for next class and get everyone on the same page for the goals for the year. The ensemble conductors will update the roadmaps (with Helen) by next week. Don’t worry about submitting your lessons plans by Tuesday for this upcoming week.
  6. Planned Absences: If you have not done so already, please be sure to submit any plan absences asap, as it is can be difficult for us to find subs. To submit an absence, please call the attendance line and be sure your lesson plan is substitute-ready.
