Scripture of the Month: Genesis 9:12-13 – God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living soul that is with you, for everlasting generations: I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the land.” – Genesis 9:12-13

  • Definition: A promise is a word spoken to do or not do something where the hearer can trust the word will be fulfilled.
  • Bible Word: Hebrew words דָּבַר dabar (Strong’s number H1696) means “to speak” and בָּטַח batakh (Strong’s Number H982) means “to trustfully cling on to someone or something for support or security.” Both words are often translated as “promise” in the Bible / Greek word ἐπαγγελία epangelia (Strong’s Number G1860) is “an announcement for information, a pledge, or an expression of approval or agreement” but is especially used to announce a divine assurance of good.
